Raw Foods

Posted by Midnight Dust on July 8, 2010 in Uncategorized

I’m not a vegan…or even a vegetarian.  I just love food and I’m willing to taste anything once.  I originally started looking at raw food diets for their desserts.  I wanted to find something that Rob could eat that wouldn’t be as bad as the real thing. So I bought Ani’s Raw Food kitchen, written by Ani Phyo.  Although this is the only experience I have with raw food, I’d have to say that I’m quite impressed with the taste and quality of her recipes.  They are very simple and Rob loves almost everything I’ve made from there.  The desserts get praise from him as well as from my roommates and friends.

Rob’s favorites are the pistachio pesto and the taco meat.  The beanless hummus went so fast at the last BBQ and I absolutely love the ginger almond nori wraps.  I’m still going through the book as I don’t have a high speed blender and have been having trouble making some of the dishes.  Overall though, I think its a great book worth reading.  I’ve gone a lot more green too…although the meat eating, isn’t stopping anytime soon.

I want to dedicate this blog to my failed attempts of cooking as well as giving praise to other cooks. I’ve wanted to post recipes from other people but I don’t want you to think I’m taking credit for it. I could specifically post it was created by another person…but I also get a lot of these recipes from books and I don’t know about copywriting and crap like that. Instead I will post what I tried, what book it’s from and why I think it’s pretty good. As always, I have Rob’s health in mind so I’m going to try to keep it as diabetic friendly as possible. To keep things real, we eat some not so healthy stuff from time to time and 20% of it…I’m cooking. The other percent is pizza, Chinese food and Los Pericos! (If you live in the San Leandro area and have NOT been to Los Pericos…you have no idea of the awesomeness that is their food. We go there at least 4-5 times a month).

Once again…that is Taqueria Los Pericos – 101 Pelton Center Way, San Leandro.
